Turn vanilla-flavored milk into ice cubes and let them infuse into your hot coffee as they melt.  For a different flavor, try this with coconut milk!

Makes: about 2 dozen ice cubes
2 cups milk
1 vanilla bean, split

1. Put the milk in a medium bowl or pitcher. Scrape the vanilla bean seeds into the milk using the tip of a sharp knife; whisk until combined.

2. Divide the milk mixture among two ice cube trays. Freeze at least three hours or overnight.

3.  Enjoy in your next cup of coffee!

As we always say, we love cooking with coffee.  (We really love drinking it, of course!)

When we came across this recipe, we had to share.

Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 box French Vanilla Cake Mix, or other vanilla or white cake mix
  • 1/4 cup ground coffee of your choice
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 stick unsweetened butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons White Chocolate Creamer
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk, optional

Instructions for Cake

  1. Set oven to bake at 350 degrees.  If making cupcakes, insert baking cups in pan.  For cake, grease cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, follow directions on box for cake mix.  Stir in coffee grinds.
  3. Pour batter into cake pan or baking cups.
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when inserted in center of cake.

Icing

1. In a large bowl, mix shortening, butter and creamer with an electric mixer until creamy.

2. Add in milk if too thick.

Frost and Enjoy!

We know that drinkinggreen_coffee_beans_image  coffee can have health benefits, but the trend of unroasted coffee beans for weight loss may not hold the same promise. In a new study with mice, scientists
in Australia showed that the extract didn’t have any effect on body fat, but it did have a harmful impact on the mice’s insulin resistance. The group of mice  eating the green beans extract gained the same amount of weight as the control  group, but this group also was not processing insulin, which led to higher  amounts of sugar in their blood, a sign of diabetes. It is only one study so  far, but it does suggest that more research is needed before anyone can  responsibly say it has benefits.

Do you ever worry about having too much caffeine?  There are some lucky souls who never have to worry about that, even as they sip that mug of coffee right before bed!  But for a lot of people, it can be a concern.  For children, it could be a big concern.

If you are looking to lower your caffeine intake, or if you are one of those people who would love a nightcap of coffee, we have some options.  Obviously, decaffeinated coffee is a good choice (and we have plenty of decaf choices!).  But we also have a variety of instant beverages, without caffeine, that are perfect for any time of the day or night.Pero_jar

One of our best sellers is Pero.  Made in Germany, it is a combination of barley, chicory and rye that’s naturally caffeine-free.  It is delicious with milk and sugar.  We have regular Pero in a can and an Extra version that should remind you of French Roast coffee.  Best of all, you won’t miss the caffeine.  At 5 calories a serving, 1g carb and fat free, you can drink it all day long.

Another great product is Leroux instant chicory.  We have it in regular, caramel flavor and chocolate flavor.  They all taste great cold, especially the caramel and the chocolate flavors.  We have it in 100g/3.5oz jars at a great price.

We carry the instant drink named Cafix.  From Poland, it’s a blend of barley, chicory, figs and red beets.  We also carry Cafix Crystals that have a rich and robust taste.  Try Cafix cold with or without milk and sugar.

Lastly, we have INKA, which has been made in Poland for over 40 years.  A blend of nutritional ingredients such as barley, rye and chicory, all of which have been roasted to make a flavorful and healthy drink, INKA has long been a staple in Polish homes because it is ideal for the entire family.  We have 3 flavors of this healthy instant drink:  3 in 1 (flavored with milk and sugar); chocolate (kids love it!) and Instant.  We have the lowest prices on the internet for INKA and our other coffee substitutes, Leroux, Pero and Cafix.  You’ll love the convenience of these instant drinks!

Not Ready to Give Up Coffee?  Try Nestle Ricore!

Nestle Ricore is an instant coffee drink made of 40% coffee and 60% chicory.  Very popular in France, the drink promises to make you a morning person (it’s their advertising slogan, well-known in France!).  Chicory has been used as a coffee substitute for ages.  When chicory is mixed with coffee, it adds body and flavor.  Ricore has both chicory and coffee so it’s the best of both worlds.  Ricore is often made with milk, but it can be made with water or with a mixture of both milk and water.
