The 2015 Fancy Food Show Had It All

It’s always fun to see the food trends and new products that are showcased at the Specialty Food Association’s bi-annual Fancy Food Shows. has attended for several years and it’s usually a great experience all around!

At each show, the Association presents its sofi awards (“specialty outstanding food innovation”) in a red-carpet ceremony.

The award categories reflect culinary creativity around the world.  Current sofi Product categories include Appetizers, Baking Ingredients, Beverages, Breads, Cheeses, Chocolates, Jams, Frozen Treats, New Products and Vinegars and more! Here are some of our favorites.

Unusual Foods Are A Hit

Let’s talk unconventional items found at the 2015 Fancy Food Show:

A traditional dairy company in upstate New York showcased its wine ice cream, which they claim has up to 5 percent alcohol.  The treats come in eight flavors, including Strawberry Sparkling and Chocolate Cabernet.

Maple water, which is produced from the boiled sap from the trees, is a clear, watery liquid.  The taste is slightly sweet, with a 355ml bottle having 30 calories and 7 grams of sugar.  And no trees were harmed in the collection process.

From the maker of kale chips comes Broccoli Bites.  Before the veggie is dehydrated, the broccoli is tossed in a herbs, seeds and spices dressing.  A 42g bag has 150 calories.

And the sofi Goes To…

So many categories, so little time.  There isn’t room to mention all the winners here but a few categories that we care about had these outstanding specialties:

Hot Beverage sofi:  Vanilla Pear Tea

Cold Beverage sofi:  White and Vine, a blend of white tea, with pomegranate, lemon peel and watermelon juice, ready to add to your favorite tequila, bourbon, gin or wheat beer.

Frozen Treat sofi:  Speculoos Cookie Butter ice cream, because we know speculoos cookies are a delicious Dutch treat (and we have the cookies available on our site here).

Confection sofi:  Goat Milk Chai Caramels made with milk from free-range goats and local ingredients from Vermont, where the company is based.

New Product sofi:  Raspberry Rhubarb Goat Milk Caramels, from the same producer as the Chai Caramels, same happy goats.  ‘Nuff said about goats.
