But first, let’s talk about Dutch-American Heritage Day, which is November 16, 2017. It was in 1991 when the U.S. Congress officially voted to make November 16th as Dutch-American Heritage Day. President George H.W. Bush decreed the day be a way to celebrate the 200 years of friendship between the U.S. and the Netherlands. Did you know that the Netherlands was one of the first countries to recognize the U.S. as an independent country? Events are held in cities across America: Holland, Michigan; Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; Seattle, Washington, among many others.
This year, a gala is being held in Los Angeles on the 16th to honor Famke Janssen, a Dutch actress, director, and former fashion model. Born in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, Janssen moved to New York city to attend Columbia University. She has worked for organizations that raise animal rights awareness, set international drugs and crime policies, and most recently to raise awareness about animal poaching. Proceeds from the gala will help fund education and research for cancer and for Dutch studies at two California universities.

The non-toxic glitter is able to be used in food and drink, and apparently leaves you with a shiny lip gloss too. A café in Mumbai, India, is doing the same thing, with their “Diamond and Gold Cappuccino.”
