Enjoy The French Holiday Season With Enjoy Better Coffee

The end of November is a special time around the world. In France, the end of the month brings the opening of the “marchés de Noel” (Christmas markets).

Strasbourg-France-Market-ChristmasThe holiday spectacle includes all sorts of local products and wares (think lavender from Provence and soap from Marseille); Christmas trees, decorations and lights, lots of lights; short plays and musical performances; wine-tasting in the regions that produce wine (think Bordeaux and Champagne); and, the arrival of Saint Nicolas to visit with the children. This officially opens the Christmas season. In many parts of France, Saint Nicolas Day is celebrated in early December. As you may already know, that night children place their shoes (or maybe a special St. Nick boot) near the door or by the chimney before retiring to bed. In the morning, the shoes should be filled with gifts, candies, toys and other special items that Saint Nicolas has delivered while everyone slept. The French also celebrate with “le Père Noël” (Father Christmas) on December 25th. French consumers also enjoy a Buche de Noel (yule log), available in many delicious flavors (coffee, praline, chocolate, lemon, and white chocolate).

Another huge event occurs annually on the third Thursday of November: The arrival of the Beaujolais Nouveau. Paris gets very merry. Because this day marks when the new season’s wine can be sold, it is a perfect reason to enjoy some special food and drink.

Carte Noire began more than 35 years ago when Rene Monnier started his own coffee business. The Monniers had already been in the coffee blending and roasting business producing another coffee, Grand Mere. The family chose the Carte Noire name and the black and gold packaging to reflect the sophistication and elegance of this new coffee. We have a range of roasts of Carte Noire, including:

Ground coffee: An intense and rich blend made from 100% Arabica beans

Velours: Sweet and aromatic, and as velvety as it sounds

Espresso: A true European espresso with a dark roasted, full, and intense taste

Espresso Classique: Nespresso-compatible capsules made from pure Arabica beans with citrus and chocolate notes.

We have ground, whole beans, instant, pods, and espresso Carte Noire coffees available.

Even better, Carte Noire ground coffee is already on sale — so you’ll be getting an even better deal using the discount above!

Grand Mere, started by the Monnier family, is named after a grandmother because “Grandma knows how to make a good coffee.” Just look at the package to see her smiling at you as you enjoy her coffee. Today, Grand Mere is one of the top coffee brands in France. We have ground Familial (Family) roast available in 8.8oz packages.

Maison Du Café is produced by Douwe Egberts France. Ma Tradition is a combination of Robusta and Arabica coffee beans, roasted using the Douwe Egberts process, which produces a fragrant and balanced medium roast coffee. LOR Doux is soft and sweet from the 100% Arabica coffee beans.

And, It’s Not Just About Coffee…

We have a selection of instant chocolate and coffee drinks that are both delicious and convenient:

Ricore: Instant drink made with coffee and chicory; add hot milk for a special café au lait.

Leroux: Instant drink with chicory; the drink has a full flavor, a smooth texture and no caffeine. The drink is delicious alone or mixed with coffee or hot chocolate. This is a five-star alternative to coffee.

Voison Instant Chocolate: Made entirely of all-natual cocoa and sugar

L’Ancienne Instant Chocolate: Fine powdered French chocolate with sugar and Bourbon vanilla, the cocoa is rich and thick and unforgettable.

All of these are available with the discount above.

Cozy Up With Cocoa (and More) From EnjoyBetterCoffee.com

2015_Cocoa and treat with logo

You’re sitting at a small Parisian café. It’s breakfast time on your first day in Paris. You are thinking coffee, eggs and bacon are the norm, but instead, you are served a croissant and hot chocolate, of course!  (Yes, dunk the pastry, s’ils vous plait!)

As you may know, it isn’t unusual to be served hot chocolate as a breakfast drink in many European countries. It wasn’t always this way, though.

When chocolate first appeared in Europe in the 18th century, it was a status symbol and enjoyed by the nobility, originally in Spain. Chocolate was mostly drunk, since candy and solid chunks of chocolate weren’t produced until more than a century later. You would buy cocoa at a coffee cafe or Chocolate House, though it was seen by some as dangerous or even addictive.

In France, chocolate was such a delight, it was served in the royal palace of Versailles. A doctor of the time declared it was the “food of the gods, rather than ambrosia or nectar.” Favored courtiers were invited to the chocolat du Regent – a breakfast of chocolate with the Regent (who was the under-age king’s uncle, since the heir to the throne Louis XV was only 5 years old when his father died; the Regent handled affairs until the child was old enough).

The preparations of chocolate for drinking were also different around the world. The Spanish put vanilla and sugar in water with cocoa; the English get the credit for adding milk to the recipe; the French used cocoa, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon.

At EnjoyBetterCoffee.com, we have a great selection of cocoa powder, hot chocolate mix, cookies and cake for dunking and even  sugar cubes (brown and white) for sweetening your drink.

Try A L’Ancienne Instant Chocolate for a true French cocoa experience. This premium cocoa contains only 3 simple ingredients: cocoa, vanilla and brown sugar. We have a variety of sizes of A L’Ancienne instant chocolate, from 10 individual pouches to 14 packets in a special gift cube to the kilo-sized can.  We have a variety of available cocoas and sweets online, so go for it!

In the meantime, cozy up with some hot cocoa and a biscuit for a truly French rendezvous with chocolate. Order anything from www.EnjoyBetterCoffee.com and get $5 off your order of $40 or more.*
