The Netherlands is home to Douwe Egberts, one of our most popular coffee brands. This week, we highlight some of the unusual and special homes that are must-sees!
Any trip to Amsterdam should include a visit to the Anne Frank House. The house also has a museum and a gift shop, and is one of the quietest places you will ever find. The annex where the family and four others hid and lived for more than two years is preserved for visitors to get a sense of their life. Anne’s pictures of movie stars taped to her small room’s wall is preserved under glass. You can peek out the window of the top room, just as Anne would do to get away from the cramped communal space. The House opened in 1960, and continues to this day to spread knowledge, freedom and democracy.
On the very same canal you will find the houseboat Hendrika Maria, also known as the Houseboat Museum. Since 1997, the owner has opened his home and welcomed visitors. Amsterdam canals are lined with similar houseboats. Check out the full kitchen down below, the wood-burning stove in the sitting room, and all the containers of plants soaking up the sun on the boat’s roof. Plus, getting a picture of the canal and bridges from the canal itself makes for a special photo.
One of the greatest visual artists in history, and the most important in Dutch art, is Rembrandt. A Dutch painter and printmaker, he lived in Amsterdam from his mid-twenties until his death. He is well-known for his portraits, his Biblical scenes, his etchings and his creative use of light and shadow in his work. The Rembrandt House Museum, where the artist actually lived for almost 20 years, is restored to look exactly how it did during those years. It was here that he painted the majority of his great works, stored his collection of unusual objects (stuffed animals, musical instruments, shells, coins, etc.), and taught art to students. Whether you are a fan of art or a fan of architecture, this place is worth a visit.

Douwe Egberts Note On Grinds
The grind size of coffee has a direct impact on the quality of the flavor of the brewed coffee. While you should always use the correct grind for the type of equipment you are using to make coffee, the good news is that Douwe Egberts in ground is a medium coarse grind. This flexible grind works in French Press, filter, and drip machines.
Coffee In The News
Beans In Space
Astronaut coffee is made from beans sourced from a small farm in Colombia that are launched on a weather balloon and sent to space. Well, more accurately, the beans traveled 30 miles up into the stratosphere. When the barista recovered the package of beans several hours later using GPS, the beans were slightly frozen and coated with water from the air pressure. Two servings of these beans cost $50, which is made and served pour-over style. The coffee is supposed to be light, soft and fruity, with notes of licorice.
As always, enjoy better coffee and thanks from the EnjoyBetterCoffee Team!
