We Have Imported Italian Coffee Just Like Italians Drink Everyday!

itl-villa-plus-castle
If you have ever considered moving to Italy, because let’s face it, they have great coffee there, then you should investigate the small Italian villages looking to attract new residents. Several towns and villages in the country are offering homes for one Euro ($1.10 USD); some are even offering to pay a stipend if you do buy there. The catch is that the homes are abandoned, often dilapidated, needing work and improvements, so while you may get the house cheaply, you are obligated to complete planned repairs within a few years. In some cases, the buyer must open a small business, and there is usually a non-refundable deposit.

itl-villa-interior-staircaseInterestingly, many of these villages are historical centers showcasing architecture, archeological ruins, cave and underground chamber living, wine harvesting, mountain-side and seaside areas, and even featuring centuries-old stone houses at the base of a castle. Even more interesting for the Italians already living there, it turns out that these inexpensive homes have attracted Europeans and Americans, who are buying and renovating. Almost ten percent of Italy’s population consists of people from other countries.

Small villages in the country have increasingly fewer residents, as people have slowly abandoned the areas to move to larger towns for work. In addition, Italy’s birth rate has drastically fallen, with 2018 registering as the lowest on record ever.

Luckily, you don’t have to move to Italy to get real Italian coffee. At EnjoyBetterCoffee.com, we have fresh and delicious Italian coffee imported from Italy. This week, we are offering a special deal on 3 of our top brands:

Burglary Spree Made Him Thirsty

Coffee-Police-LineIn a suburb of Atlanta, a block of businesses were broken into and plundered during several hours overnight one day last week. The intruder was spotted on surveillance cameras, and is accused of taking computers, tvs, sports memorabilia, and food. He tried but was unsuccessful in making a cup of coffee at one of his stops, so he grabbed the coffee itself and took that instead. Police released video images asking for the public’s help in identifying the perp.

Italian Espresso and More Reasons To Love Coffee

If French is the language of love, then Italian is the language of coffee! The reason? Espresso, born in Italy, is the basis of all Italian-named coffee drinks. From cappuccino to macchiato to latte, they all start with espresso! Let’s take a look at this key component of Italian coffee.
DK-Espresso-Banner
Espresso is a very concentrated shot of coffee that results from forcing nearly-boiling water through finely ground coffee. Early espresso machines used steam pressure to force the water through the grounds. Today there are many different methods of extracting espresso, from manual and automatic machines to stovetop espresso makers.

esp-dripAs the water blasts through the coffee, all the flavor, oils, sugars and proteins are released and dissolved in the liquid. The resulting mixture, while small in volume, is slightly thick, with a very strong, rich flavor. Gently resting on top is the crema (foam), which many experts say indicates the quality of the espresso. Traditionally, espresso is served in a small, porcelain cup, alone or with any number of add-ins and toppings: cream, liquor, warm milk, chocolate – the list is long, just pick your favorite. The extracted shot can also be used in many other coffee drinks, as mentioned above.

We have a huge selection of espresso beans, ground espresso and even decaffeinated espresso. And, we have these Italian coffees in roasts that can prepared in a regular coffee maker. The options are endless! Even better, our prices make it easy to espresso yourself!

Recipe: Espresso Martini

If you have never had an espresso martini, you don’t know what you are missing! Here is the classic recipe created when a model came into a London brasserie and asked for a stiff drink that would wake her up.

coffee-martini-2019• 2 parts vodka
• 1 part Kahlua (coffee liqueur)
• 1 part fresh espresso
• ½ part simple syrup (or to taste)
• 3 coffee beans to garnish

1. Mix all the ingredients except the beans in a shaker full of ice and shake hard for 30 seconds.

2. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with the beans centered on the froth.

Italian Military Exercises Serve Up Strategy and Espresso

ITL-Soldiers-EspressoThe Italian Army’s paratrooper brigade has been taking part in “Swift Response” exercises in eastern Europe this summer, being dropped into the field, then searching for and capturing “the enemy.” One of the most important pieces of equipment they carry is the portable espresso machine, because, well, they love espresso. In their foxholes, the Italians brew espresso, and the other combatants have noticed. An American adviser taking part in the exercises noted that the Italian paratroopers are battle-ready, even when gripping a tiny cup of coffee. In a recent night battle, the paratroopers successfully held their position through a mock challenge. You can be sure they celebrated the win with an espresso.

Coffee in the Spotlight: Italian Coffee

espresso-filter
Italians have loved coffee since it first arrived at the port of Trieste, Italy, in the 16th century. Italians drink coffee first thing in the morning, after lunch, at work and then after dinner. (Italians will point out that they don’t drink cappuccino after midday, as they consider the drink to be only for breakfast.) Coffee is an art in Italy, especially and most notably, with espresso.

In Italy, the coffee shop, known as the coffee ‘bar’, is extremely popular too! When you enter, you will find a lot of people standing while drinking their espressos. That’s right…in Italy, café patrons tend to stand for their coffee, served with a glass of water too, as a side drink. Making perfect espresso is a key skill in the bars. This week, we focus on Kimbo, Lavazza and Hausbrandt, Italian coffee roasters in the tradition of true Italian coffees.

A Note About Espresso

Espresso-TortEspresso became popular at the start of the 20th century in Italy with the development of machines built to make coffee. Espresso bars became a place to meet and socialize. Tiny cups were all the rage. The word espresso is used to describe both a roast of coffee (Espresso Roast) and a method of brewing. Espresso is brewed by forcing hot water under pressure through a compressed pack of finely ground coffee. Espresso Roast refers to coffee roasted so that it is somewhat darker than traditional American roasts. The espresso roast highlights the bitter-sweetness of the bean while keeping the acidity (the tartness) down.

These Bears Are A Different Kind of Gummy

coffee-gummiesA candy store has introduced a new product just this week: Coffee-infused, caffeinated gummy bears in three flavors. Cold brew is described as earthy; Bourbon brew is smokier and iced vanilla latte is a vanilla and almond milk espresso flavor. Reviewers found the aromas pleasantly sweet, and the amount of caffeine in a serving is equal to an espresso. The beans are even packaged in small covered cups with tiny straws for those on the go!

Italian Coffee: Love At First Sip

Debut-Espresso

Italy holds a key role in the history of coffee in Europe. It was in Italy, in fact, that the best-brewed coffee was produced the first-time using steam and pressure. We’re talking about espresso, of course. With the Industrial Revolution well under way, inventors were looking for ways to use steam to brew coffee more quickly. An Italian patent for a new-fangled device in 1884 describes “steam machinery for the economic and instantaneous confection of coffee beverage.” Unfortunately, that device was only used for the Turin General Exposition in the same year, where more than ten thousand exhibitors welcomed three million visitors.

patent-espresso-machineTwenty years later, Luigi Bezzerra, a manufacturer in Milan, invented the first of a series of commercial espresso machines. Early versions heated the water with a flame, making the regulation of heat and steam inconsistent, so the machine had a hard time catching on. Only when a clever designer added the first pressure release valve, along with a steam wand, did the machines start to be produced and used commonly. Introduced at the 1906 Milan Fair, “cafeé espresso“ was a hit, and similar coffee machines were soon popping up all over Italy.

This week, we are putting 3 big Italian roasters in the spotlight:
