Meanwhile, In Italy…
This time of year, Italians anxiously await several seasonal events. There are festivals for saints, a jazz festival, a film festival, but the 2 most important food-related fests are the Truffle Festivals and the annual return of roasted chestnuts.
Chestnuts are considered a fall fruit in Italy, and have been grown in the area for centuries, with some chestnut trees honored as state monuments. Being low fat and high fiber, these vitamin-filled nuggets of flavor helped many Italians, especially those without access to farmland, to survive winters. Today, you will find street vendors roasting and selling chestnuts across the country, then serving them in paper cones. It’s a sure sign that winter, and the winter holidays, are coming.
From street gourmet to culinary gourmet, here’s a look at the various Truffle festivals held across the country in November. Many towns celebrate the fungus, which looks similar to a mushroom but has a mild garlic and earthy flavor, and just happens to deliciously complement Italian cuisine. The largest gathering is the Alba International White Truffle Festival. Also eagerly anticipated are the truffles available for sale. In 2018, two pounds of Alba truffles sold for the equivalent of $85,000 USD. Parma and San Miniato are other towns that have large gatherings in honor of the precious truffle.
Take a Closer Look at These Artisanal Brands
In the heart of Rome, just a few steps from the Pantheon, Sant Eustachio slow roasts beans over wood in the back of the shop. This roasting technique creates a mild coffee with a fragrant aroma. Try the Sant Eustachio Filtro and Sant Eustachio Moka, in ground, or the Nespresso-compatible capsules. You’ll really save with the discount above.
With origins in Trieste, illy coffee is always rich and full-bodied with a velvety texture. Try the Medium Roast Fine Grind Espresso, Dark Roast Fine Ground Espresso, Moka, and Decaffeinated, in ground or, whole beans Blend Classico Medium Roast and Intenso Bold Roast.
In The Spotlight: Kimbo
Based in Naples, in the south of Italy, Kimbo has produced premium coffee for more than 50 years. We have a wide range of Kimbo coffees, including several signature espresso-ready roasts, available in ground, whole beans, and capsules.
Our popular roasts include Kimbo Antica Tradizione in ground, which is the original rich and flavorful Kimbo blend; Kimbo Espresso Napoletano in ground, roasted and prepared using the Neapolitan tradition; and Kimbo Premium Espresso Bar in whole beans, which creates an intense espresso drink.
Just in, soon-to-be favorites: Kimbo Crema Suprema Espresso (balanced, perfect espresso); Kimbo Dolce Crema Espresso (light roast, smooth and velvety); Kimbo Crema Intensa Espresso (medium, full-flavor).
For Nespresso connoisseurs, try these from Kimbo: Delicate Armonia, medium, balanced Napoli, medium/dark toasty Lungo, and full-flavored Intenso. Kimbo BIO Organic capsules are a medium roast, with organic Arabica beans.
The founder was a merchant marine, eventually opening a coffee roasting business in Italy. His innovations revolutionized packaging, storage, and transport of fresh coffee in proper containers made for long hauls. We offer Caffe Hausbrandt roasts in whole beans. On the delicate side, there’s Gourmet Columbus, a balanced coffee, and Gourmet, spicy and citrusy. Academia Espresso is a single origin medium roast, smooth with fruit notes. The more intense roasts include Trieste Espresso, full-bodied, with toast notes; Classic Espresso, from Robusta beans and is full-bodied, and H. Hausbrandt, a sweet, spicy, nutty roast.
When Vittorio Trombetta began roasting and selling Caffe Trombetta coffee in 1890, he opened his shop near the main terminal of the train station in Rome. Over the next 60 years, the company grew and gained its current reputation as a producer of quality coffee, particularly espresso. Try Nespresso-compatible capsules available in 3 roasts: Arabica (balanced), Crema (creamy), and Organic BIO (100% Organic beans).
There are plenty of things to look forward to this month and beyond, and a few of them might well come from us. We are making some exciting changes at EnjoyBetterCoffee.com, and can’t wait share the all the details with you, our valued customers. And, as always…
This week, we spotlight 3 of our premium Italian brands:
As coffee made its way into Europe through Italy, the busy port city of Trieste was vital in this regard. The founder of Hausbrandt was Austrian, yet he chose to open his coffee roasting business in Trieste. Hermann Hausbrandt, a merchant marine, is known for his innovation with transport and storage of coffee to keep it fresh. Hausbrandt also introduced the invention and use of the electric roaster right in their coffee shop, and was one of the first companies at the time to sell coffee in sealed metal containers.
Another coffee leader from Italy is Lavazza Coffee. When this coffee business was founded in 1895 by Luigi Lavazza, he pursued his passion of blending great coffee, and four generations later, it is still about that passion. Based in Turin, in the northwestern part of the country, Lavazza blends and creates the highest-quality Italian espresso. Lavazza continues to innovate new coffee blends, combining coffee beans from different regions to create premium tastes, and is always improving the packaging of their coffees to preserve freshness.
Caffè Vergnano is one of the top Italian coffee companies, and can be found in more than 80 countries. Since Domenico Vergnano opened a grocery store in the foothills surrounding Turin more than 130 years ago, the beans have been meticulously selected and slowly roasted for the best flavor. Caffè Vergnano slow roasts the bean for no longer than 22 minutes, then inspects for quality.

“The smell of fresh-made coffee is one of the world’s greatest inventions.”
We agree! Around here, somebody’s always brewing a cup throughout the day, and nothing smells or tastes better than a freshly brewed cup of good coffee. We also know that more people than ever are making and drinking coffee at home – almost 80 percent of Americans in a recent industry survey said they had drunk coffee at home the previous day.
Speaking of drinking coffee, would you be surprised to know that $40 billion dollars is spent on coffee per year by consumers? It is the second most-traded commodity after oil.
On average, people in their 20’s start drinking more coffee, as much as 25 percent more. Americans over 60 drink the most coffee, while 37 percent of teens said they drink coffee. Almost half of millennials described the previous day’s cup of coffee as gourmet. In fact, according to the survey, more than half of Americans are specifically choosing gourmet and premium coffees as daily drinks.
Luckily for you, we have delicious premium and special gourmet coffees, made for the European market, so the flavor profile of the coffee is slightly stronger and more intense than American market coffee. We have all the historic European brands, plus several smaller-production roasters. Even better, this week, you can try a new coffee or stock up on your favorites, and we’ll give you 15% off your order of $30 or more.*

The Best Time To Visit Europe
Fall is the best time to visit Europe for several reasons. For one, tourist season has ended, so less traffic by car and on foot. Also, the heat of summer has led to cooler days (and you may recall, this past summer was one of the hottest on record). Most importantly, air fare is much lower in the fall. Consider these locations:
Rome, Italy. You may have seen in the news that the city government has imposed new regulations on visits to their monuments because of issues with too many tourists. During the fall months, the city returns to its normal pace of local life. Plus, the weather tends to be sunny during the day and chilly at night. We have several brands that offer classic Italian espresso and more, including our huge range of Lavazza, illy’s espresso, exclusive wood-roasted Sant Eustachio, authentic Segafredo, in ground and whole bean options. Several of these brands also come in capsules for Nespresso machines, or pods for espresso machines. You can find these directly by selecting Coffee By Type on our site, and choosing capsules or pods, whichever works in your machine.
Paris, France. No hordes of tourists, street-side cafes still set up tables and chairs – ask for a blanket if you get chilly – and for a short drive outside the city, you can experience the colors of autumn in a national forest. Capture the flavor of the city of lights with Carte Noire coffee, with its intense and unique aroma, and its classic taste.
Berlin, Germany. The city is easy to walk, especially with fewer tourists, and buildings and other colorful street art make wandering the city a worthwhile endeavor. While it can be chilly, you can warm up with comforting wursts and schnitzel, and follow with one of several iconic German coffee brands. We have you covered there with a wide range of Jacobs, Tchibo and Dallmayr coffees. Be sure to check out specialty roasters, Eilles and Eduscho, too.
The discount is only available for a few days, so order now.

Germany is home to the brands we’re spotlighting this week, so here’s a little more about this historic and important country.
Let’s start in Germany’s capital, Berlin, considered to be the best city to live in for its culture, according to a survey conducted by a bank whose customers live abroad. This expat banking service, for people living outside their native countries, asks participants to rate top locations, quality of life topics, work opportunities and standards, cultural offerings and more. The survey found 70 percent of expats living in Berlin found its cultural side to be “vibrant” and 55 percent found the city diverse and “welcoming.”
Another welcoming aspect of Germany is the traditional food of the country. Despite the name, Boiled Meatballs are a favorite and filling comfort food. Veal (or other ground meat) is mixed with onions, eggs, anchovies, and spices, made into small meatballs which are cooked and served with a creamy, lemony white sauce dotted with capers.
Another national dish is Sauerbraten. The pot roast dish (literally “sour roast”) is labor-intensive to prepare, so it is often for special occasions. While there are regional variations, basically beef or venison is marinated in a red wine vinegar spice mixture for several days, then cooked slowly in a covered pot at a low heat. Serve the thinly sliced meat with a dark beetroot and sugar gravy, rye bread, red cabbage, and potato dumplings. Finally, we have to mention the most popular food in Germany: Potato pancakes, a comfort food and street food staple, are usually served with apple sauce on black pumpernickel rye break, sometimes with a drizzle of sweet syrup.
Our last highlight of the day is a mention of Kaffee & Kuchen. This long-standing German tradition calls for sitting down in the afternoon with a piece of good cake, and a cup of coffee! Everyone participates in the ritual, from the young to the old, and cafes fill up with people gossiping away the time while enjoying good German coffee.

Find Love At First Sip With These Brands
Jacobs flagship coffee is Kronung, [“coronation” in German], and is well-known for its aromatic qualities, mellow flavor and reasonable price. We have several options including Mild and Balanced. We currently have Jacobs Cappuccino instant, which tends to sell quickly, and which makes a fine, velvety cappuccino. We have 3 other instant coffee roasts from Jacobs, and because this is instant made for the European market, the flavor is strong and full.
Tchibo Feine Milde Ground coffee is a naturally mild coffee made from Arabica beans grown in different geographical areas. The perfect blend makes the coffee mild and soft with a delicious flavor. If you prefer a coffee with a stronger flavor, try Beste Bohne. It has a sweetness with good body making it perfect to drink every time. We also have Tchibo Espresso Milano Style and Sicilia Style, both in whole beans and both with a velvety crema.
If you are looking for a smooth coffee, then you must try Dallmayr Prodomo, their most popular product. The coffee is smooth from the first sip to the finish, and we have whole beans, ground, plus a decaf roast and a mild roast, both in ground. Velvety Dallmayr Crema D’Oro is balanced, smooth, with spicy aroma notes. Dallmayr also has capsules for the Nespresso machine. We have a range of 8 roasts in our Capsa line. On the lighter end, we have Lungo Ethiopia (medium); Decaffeinato (medium/dark), Prodomo, and Lungo Belluno (soft and balanced). Artigiano is complex with fruit and nut notes, Barista (dark with cocoa tones), Lungo Azzuro (strong) and Ristretto (intense) are the dark roast options. All of these capsules are available, along with our entire Dallmayr line, for the discount offered above. If you have a Nespresso machine, do not miss this deal!
Mount Hagen instant coffee is made from 100 percent organically-grown Arabica beans, certified under USDA standards. The taste is unique and fresh.
Even the freeze-drying process is additive-free. We have Mount Hagen instant in jars of regular and decaf and in single serve sticks, all with the rich aroma and taste of fair-trade and organic beans. Mount Hagen instant coffee consistently is rated high on the taste scale for instant coffee.
Eduscho opened its first store in Bremen in the 50’s, and within a few years, introduced Gala coffee. Because it was sold in bakeries – kaffee and kuchen – its popularity took off. In 1980, Gala coffee was renamed to Gala Number 1 (Nr. 1) Klassisch to reflect its status in the market, along with its top flavor and quality. Try Gala Mild, with its mild taste and gentle aroma, or the stronger Gala Nr 1 Klassisch.
One Last Note About Coffee in Germany
We read about a café in Hamburg, situated on the scenic Mühlenkamp canal, that serves coffee and cake (and other food) to its patrons who paddle up, ring a bell, order, then are served in their boat. A picture on the café’s site shows several canoes gathered around an open window which displays the menu of the day, but the site really focuses on their cakes. They claim their cakes are incomparable. One of their cakes with crunchy butter crumbles apparently has a devoted following, and all their cakes are served with fresh cream and really good espresso. Whether rhubarb, plum, apple or gooseberry cake, or the famous “Bee sting” cake (with almonds and custard), all are baked fresh daily using local ingredients.

If you have ever considered moving to Italy, because let’s face it, they have great coffee there, then you should investigate the small Italian villages looking to attract new residents. Several towns and villages in the country are offering homes for one Euro ($1.10 USD); some are even offering to pay a stipend if you do buy there. The catch is that the homes are abandoned, often dilapidated, needing work and improvements, so while you may get the house cheaply, you are obligated to complete planned repairs within a few years. In some cases, the buyer must open a small business, and there is usually a non-refundable deposit.
Interestingly, many of these villages are historical centers showcasing architecture, archeological ruins, cave and underground chamber living, wine harvesting, mountain-side and seaside areas, and even featuring centuries-old stone houses at the base of a castle. Even more interesting for the Italians already living there, it turns out that these inexpensive homes have attracted Europeans and Americans, who are buying and renovating. Almost ten percent of Italy’s population consists of people from other countries.
Small villages in the country have increasingly fewer residents, as people have slowly abandoned the areas to move to larger towns for work. In addition, Italy’s birth rate has drastically fallen, with 2018 registering as the lowest on record ever.
Luckily, you don’t have to move to Italy to get real Italian coffee. At EnjoyBetterCoffee.com, we have fresh and delicious Italian coffee imported from Italy. This week, we are offering a special deal on 3 of our top brands:

Burglary Spree Made Him Thirsty
In a suburb of Atlanta, a block of businesses were broken into and plundered during several hours overnight one day last week. The intruder was spotted on surveillance cameras, and is accused of taking computers, tvs, sports memorabilia, and food. He tried but was unsuccessful in making a cup of coffee at one of his stops, so he grabbed the coffee itself and took that instead. Police released video images asking for the public’s help in identifying the perp.
