You Have To Try These Brands!

Let’s start with IDEE Kaffee, a wonderfully mild classic coffee, since it is a best-seller. The roasting process IDEE uses eliminates any undesirable elements with the beans prior to roasting, reducing bitter flavors that may result from standard roasting. IDEE Kaffee is made with 100% Arabica beans. This combination of high-quality beans and gentle roasting results in a mild tasting coffee, with higher caffeine content. It is easy on the stomach while still tasting delicious. We have IDEE Kaffee in ground and Gold Express Instant coffee. Both are balanced and aromatic coffees.

Eilles Kaffee, another specialty roaster, is from Germany. Created from a distinctive and special blend of beans, Eilles Kaffee uses beans grown in the highlands, which assures a high-quality coffee. For more than 130 years, Eilles Kaffee has been the preferred brand in Germany. In fact, Bavarian King Ludwig II served only Eilles coffee at his court during his reign in the late 1800s. We have Eilles Kaffee Gourmet in ground, whole beans and instant. This coffee has unique flavors with a delicate and mellow taste and aroma. Try Eilles Kaffee Arabica in ground, made from 100% Arabica beans. The coffee is delicate and mild, with fruit and citrus notes. Eilles Kaffee is packaged in beautiful blue and gold, which evokes a royal court.

From Austria, we have a coffee named after its most famous son, Mozart. Mozart Kaffee is an elegant composition of flavors, notes and aroma. Try Mozart Kaffee Mild ground coffee, a well-balanced, delicious full-bodied coffee. We also have Mozart Kaffee Intensive coffee, available in ground and instant, which has a powerful aroma and taste.

We have saved the best for last! Movenpick is from Switzerland, this coffee is roasted gently and carefully using an original Swiss recipe. Der Himmlische coffee comes in ground, whole beans and instant, taking high-altitude beans from around the world, giving the coffee a wonderful aroma and distinctive taste.

We also have Movenpick Espresso whole beans, which has a rich and strong taste and aroma, it makes the best espresso and espresso drinks. In fact, we are overstocked on Movenpick Espresso whole beans, so we cut the price even more, and are making them available for the weekly discount. You can’t miss out on this deal, so order today!

More About JJ Darboven

Johann J. Darboven founded a company in 1866 in Hamburg, Germany. As an innovator, he pioneered delivering roasted coffee in bags to his customers. Within a few years, he earned recognition for his 100+ varieties of coffee at an international horticultural exhibition. A generation later, his sons successfully marketed a coffee under the brand name IDEE (Idea). IDEE was (and still is) produced with a special refining process developed by the Hygienic Institute in Hamburg. The beans are treated to reduce irritants and bitter flavors while preserving the taste, and the caffeine of the coffee. The coffee was (and still is) extremely popular in Germany, and is today J.J.Darboven’s flagship product. The 1930’s found the company expanding into catering, then later into other countries. During the 60’s, one of the earliest coffee commercials shown on TV was for IDEE Kaffee. During the last few decades, J.J.Darboven has grown to include the brands described above. The company is still run by a fourth generation Darboven.

Coffee In The News

Rare Beans and An Exotic Formula Jack Up Coffee Prices at Some Cafes

In New York City, coffee shops abound. But at a Michelin-starred restaurant on Madison Park, that cup of coffee will cost $24. The restaurant’s coffee director will prepare the coffee tableside, using a dripper brewer (think amped-up Chemex coffee maker), all while timing the 3 stages of preparation carefully. The coffee used is a rare variety of beans from Colombia, and is described as having a creamy texture like dough or yogurt. The flavor is compared to blueberry pie. Another café we mentioned in a previous newsletter uses a machine that costs over $13k to prepare the $18 cup of coffee. Yet another coffee importer sells varieties of beans that are a steal at $100 a pound. We say OUCH! You can get any of our delicious coffees to brew at home – you can even grind your own beans if you prefer – and enjoy flavorful coffee for a great low price.

As always, enjoy better coffee and thanks from the EnjoyBetterCoffee Team!

German Court Defines Breakfast – And You’ll Be Surprised

If you have been to Germany, then you may already know that coffee and bread rolls are often served for breakfast. (Some hotels refer to this as a “continental breakfast.”) Well, you can be happy to know that a German court has just ruled that bread and coffee are not legally a breakfast unless there are meats, cheese, and, most importantly, butter for the bread.

German-Continental-Breakfast-Banner-butter

Why such a ruling, you ask? Well, interestingly, the issue came up when the local tax office in Muenster determined that a technology company in town was providing free breakfast to its employees, customers and guests by offering coffee and bread. The tax office said the free meal was compensation to employees, so the tech company had to pay tax on it. In fact, the tax man was trying to collect the equivalent of $1.75 per employee (there were about 80 employees in total) per day over a 3+ year period. The company took it to court, and just this week the local court ruled in favor of the company. That’s because the court said vending machine coffee (which it was) and bread without any toppings did not constitute breakfast, so the company couldn’t be taxed on this compensation. The court went on to define a real breakfast as including cold cuts, cheese, spreads, and at the very least, butter.

So now you have the legal definition of breakfast in Germany. Get some of our best German coffees, and you too can scoff at the tax man!

Coffee In The News

Coffee Lovers Of Cisco

We started with a technology company in Muenster, Germany. Let’s end this newsletter with news of another tech business on the west coast of the USA. As part of International Coffee Day, employees of Cisco, an international company that manages IT networks, blogged about their love of coffee and their love of their company. From an employee from Costa Rica, who did not like coffee until college, to a manager in Poland who chooses her coffee based on her mood to another manager in Germany who says coffee makes her creative, all agree that coffee and Cisco are just “awesome.” One employee even mentioned the Virtual Coffee Meetings held within the company as a way to enjoy coffee in good company. We say enjoy coffee any way you like it!

Coffee Talk: The Brands of JJ Darboven

We talk a lot about coffee – here at the office, in our newsletters, on our Facebook page, at home…

This week, we want to focus on 4 delicious brands that we know you will want to try (or stock up!). But first, a quick reminder about how to talk coffee. There are four key elements when we discuss a coffee:

Aroma: Not only is this the smell, but taste is also a big part of this element.

Flavor: When we talk about the flavor profile, we are talking about the flavor compounds. Think of it similar to wine-tasting, though wine has only 200 flavor compounds, while coffee has 800! (So much to explore; so little time!)

Body: This is known as “mouth feel” – how does the consistency feel in your mouth? (Think of the consistency difference between fat-free milk and whole milk.)

Finish: How does it taste after you drink it? Does it have a flavor? Is it different from the taste when you were drinking it?

Even better, you are going to get a whopping 20% off your order of these coffees with no minimum order at www.enjoybettercoffee.com.*

Please use coupon code: NEWTASTE20

*Discount valid through 11:59 P.M. PDT 6/27/2017 at www.enjoybettercoffee.com with no minimum order on brands IDEE, Eilles Kaffee, Movenpick and Mozart Kaffee. Not valid with other coupons or discounts, special sale or case sale products.

With these in mind, let’s get pouring over some of JJ Darboven’s premium coffees.

Our first tasting is IDEE Kaffee. Imported from Germany, this coffee is very gentle for sensitive stomachs. The green coffee beans are steamed prior to roasting to achieve a clean flavor – just the beans and the magic that occurs from roasting. IDEE Kaffee ground coffee, in 17.6oz packs, tastes smooth, with a mellow flavor profile, with a light body and a smooth finish. The aroma is fresh and will immediately transport you to a European sidewalk café. We also have IDEE Kaffee Gold Express instant coffee has all the same flavors, just as delicious and even more convenient, as ground.

Next up: Eilles Kaffee, also imported from Germany, was once a supplier of coffee to the Royal Bavarian court. Try Eilles Kaffee Arabica ground coffee for its mild aroma with flavors of citrus. It is full-bodied and a nice, slightly sharp finish. We also have Eilles Kaffee Gourmet coffee in ground and whole beans, with a full-bodied taste and flavor, with a strong and aromatic scent. The finish has hints of toast. We also have Eilles Gourmet in instant, with the same flavor profiles, aroma and finish.

Try Movenpick, from Switzerland. The high-quality beans are roasted to achieve a perfectly balanced coffee, medium bodied, with a mild finish. We have Der Himmlische made with 100% Arabica beans in ground, whole beans and instant. We also have Movenpick Espresso whole beans, which is a rich and strong coffee, perfect alone as espresso and in cappuccinos and lattes.

Our last offering from JJ Darboven is Mozart Kaffee, named after the great composer, because Mozart Kaffee is a well-balanced composition. Mozart Mild ground coffee is light and delicate in flavor, body and finish. Mozart Intensive is a strong, intense coffee, full-bodied with a smooth feel and a surprising finish. Mozart Intensive is available in ground and instant coffee.

Make Time To Enjoy The Best German Coffees

When we talk about German coffee, brands that immediately come to mind are Dallmayr, Jacobs, Tchibo, Eduscho, Davidoff and our newest brands from German coffee producer J.J. Darboven, Eilles Kaffee and IDEE Kaffee.

More than half of these brands are based in Hamburg, the second-largest city in Germany. Hamburg is a major global trading port, located on the Elbe River, in the northern part of Germany. The city is also a popular tourist destination, with major European education and research industries, cultural and artistic venues. And, let’s not forget the Beatles were greatly influenced by, and even performed the early years in, Hamburg’s music scene.

Hamburg has been a coffee capital ever since the first coffee house opened in 1677. By the turn of the 20th century, Hamburg was the largest coffee market in the world. Today, literally tonnes of coffee move through the historic warehouse district. The red brick buildings are situated on the water’s edge, making loading and unloading simple and swift.

German Coffee: The Best at EnjoyBetterCoffee.com

This week we give you another chapter in our occasional series on Great European Coffee Cities. Enjoy!

When we talk about German coffee, brands that immediately come to mind are Dallmayr, Jacobs, Tchibo, Eduscho, Davidoff and our newest brands from German coffee producer J.J. Darboven, Eilles Kaffee and IDEE Kaffee.

More than half of these brands are based in Hamburg, Germany, a global trading port on the Elbe River, located about 70 miles from the North Sea. Hamburg has been a coffee capital ever since the first coffee house opened in 1677. By the turn of the 20th century, Hamburg was the largest coffee market in the world. Take a canal boat ride through the warehouse district to view the bridges between the buildings, learn about the history of the massive buildings and the multitudes of goods stored within, right on the water. At the city’s port district, the streets are lined with coffee shops where snacks and hot coffee are served with beautiful views over the water as you watch the cargo ships come and go. Also near the town center is a lake with boats afloat and cafes surrounding the water’s edge.

Drive an hour southwest on Autobahn 1 and stop in Bremen, another great coffee city in Germany, and where two of these German brands are based. Bremen is a major port on the Weser River. (The North Sea is less than 40 miles north of the city.) Many companies are based in this thriving metropolis, from automobiles, the largest industry, to food and beverage, second largest, to aerospace and shipping engineering, wind power and communications. The Market Square, with the Town Hall’s impressive Renaissance architecture on one side and famous historical and fictional characters connected to Bremen depicted in statues, draws tourists year-round.

You deserve to enjoy the taste of German coffee, so we are giving you 10% off your order of these brands with no minimum purchase required at www.enjoybettercoffee.com.*
