We Have Imported Italian Coffee Just Like Italians Drink Everyday!

itl-villa-plus-castle
If you have ever considered moving to Italy, because let’s face it, they have great coffee there, then you should investigate the small Italian villages looking to attract new residents. Several towns and villages in the country are offering homes for one Euro ($1.10 USD); some are even offering to pay a stipend if you do buy there. The catch is that the homes are abandoned, often dilapidated, needing work and improvements, so while you may get the house cheaply, you are obligated to complete planned repairs within a few years. In some cases, the buyer must open a small business, and there is usually a non-refundable deposit.

itl-villa-interior-staircaseInterestingly, many of these villages are historical centers showcasing architecture, archeological ruins, cave and underground chamber living, wine harvesting, mountain-side and seaside areas, and even featuring centuries-old stone houses at the base of a castle. Even more interesting for the Italians already living there, it turns out that these inexpensive homes have attracted Europeans and Americans, who are buying and renovating. Almost ten percent of Italy’s population consists of people from other countries.

Small villages in the country have increasingly fewer residents, as people have slowly abandoned the areas to move to larger towns for work. In addition, Italy’s birth rate has drastically fallen, with 2018 registering as the lowest on record ever.

Luckily, you don’t have to move to Italy to get real Italian coffee. At EnjoyBetterCoffee.com, we have fresh and delicious Italian coffee imported from Italy. This week, we are offering a special deal on 3 of our top brands:

Burglary Spree Made Him Thirsty

Coffee-Police-LineIn a suburb of Atlanta, a block of businesses were broken into and plundered during several hours overnight one day last week. The intruder was spotted on surveillance cameras, and is accused of taking computers, tvs, sports memorabilia, and food. He tried but was unsuccessful in making a cup of coffee at one of his stops, so he grabbed the coffee itself and took that instead. Police released video images asking for the public’s help in identifying the perp.

Today Is International Coffee Day

International-coffee-day-banner-2019In the United States, International Coffee Day is September 29, 2019, celebrating coffee as the delicious beverage it is. In other parts of the world, National Coffee Day (as it is sometimes called) has most countries celebrating either today or October 1. In 2015, the International Coffee Organization officially designated the day, in Milan, Italy, as a way to promote fair trade coffee and raise awareness of the coffee growers and their challenges bringing their coffee to market. Prior to that, though, other National Coffee Days were marked in various countries. As far back as 1983, Japan began an annual day celebrating coffee; in the USA, it began in 2005, with other countries joining in with their own national day to celebrate this popular beverage. If you didn’t get a Coffee Day greeting card yet, consider this your first! Happy International Coffee Day! Use the discount above to celebrate with all your favorite brews. Don’t wait – this offer expires soon.

Most Americans Brew At Home

drip-coffeeResearch found that 89 percent of Americans make their coffee at home, noting that the convenience and cost-savings over a café pickup are fueling the numbers. Using data from 1000 people polled, there were a few other surprises. For instance, only 20 percent drink their coffee black. Two-thirds want to be able to recreate their favorite coffee shop drinks at home, but only one-third think they do it well (rating themselves an “A”). One last disclosure – almost two-thirds of respondents said making coffee was “therapeutic” for them. We say the discount above will help you with some in-home therapy, so order today!

Italian Espresso and More Reasons To Love Coffee

If French is the language of love, then Italian is the language of coffee! The reason? Espresso, born in Italy, is the basis of all Italian-named coffee drinks. From cappuccino to macchiato to latte, they all start with espresso! Let’s take a look at this key component of Italian coffee.
DK-Espresso-Banner
Espresso is a very concentrated shot of coffee that results from forcing nearly-boiling water through finely ground coffee. Early espresso machines used steam pressure to force the water through the grounds. Today there are many different methods of extracting espresso, from manual and automatic machines to stovetop espresso makers.

esp-dripAs the water blasts through the coffee, all the flavor, oils, sugars and proteins are released and dissolved in the liquid. The resulting mixture, while small in volume, is slightly thick, with a very strong, rich flavor. Gently resting on top is the crema (foam), which many experts say indicates the quality of the espresso. Traditionally, espresso is served in a small, porcelain cup, alone or with any number of add-ins and toppings: cream, liquor, warm milk, chocolate – the list is long, just pick your favorite. The extracted shot can also be used in many other coffee drinks, as mentioned above.

We have a huge selection of espresso beans, ground espresso and even decaffeinated espresso. And, we have these Italian coffees in roasts that can prepared in a regular coffee maker. The options are endless! Even better, our prices make it easy to espresso yourself!

Italian Espresso

esp-socialize-wpEspresso became popular in the first half of the 20th century in Italy with the development of machines specially built to make coffee. Espresso bars became a place to meet and socialize.

Kimbo

Kimbo-Vesuvius-Small-Advert-CropOur range of premium espresso options include one of our favorite brands, Kimbo, based in Naples since its inception. Try Kimbo Macinato Fresco, a medium roast, full flavored, with sweet notes. Kimbo produces several roasts in whole bean: Premium Espresso Bar (dark, intense); Extra Cream Espresso (medium roast, full flavor); Superior Blend (light roast, medium body, sweet notes); and, Espresso Napoletano (medium/dark roast, rich).

Lavazza

LV-Wimbeldon-bLegendary Italian brand, Lavazza, is “The coffee of Wimbledon.” Lavazza early on started artistically blending beans of different origins to create new coffee flavors. Try any of our Lavazza range, starting with these two favorites: Qualita Rossa, available in ground and whole bean, is a blend of Robusta and Arabica beans, medium roast, good for any time. Qualita Oro, made from 100% Arabica beans, is full-bodied, with a good crema, and available in ground and whole beans. See all our Lavazza products on their brand’s page.

Hausbrandt

Hausbrandt-Beans-NLTrieste, the Italian port city where coffee first made its way into Europe, is home to Caffe Hausbrandt. We recommend any of their beans: Classic Espresso, which is 100% Arabica with a medium body; Gourmet is spicy, with citrus and slightly sweet notes; Gourmet Columbus is one of Hausbrandt’s premium blends, with a delicate and balanced flavor. Trieste Espresso is full-bodied, with a toasty aroma, and notes of baked goods, cocoa and anise. H. Hausbrandt whole beans, a little sweet, and a little spicy, medium roast, with nut and cocoa notes. Check out the Hausbrandt page for additional available roasts.

Recipe: Espresso Martini

If you have never had an espresso martini, you don’t know what you are missing! Here is the classic recipe created when a model came into a London brasserie and asked for a stiff drink that would wake her up.

coffee-martini-2019• 2 parts vodka
• 1 part Kahlua (coffee liqueur)
• 1 part fresh espresso
• ½ part simple syrup (or to taste)
• 3 coffee beans to garnish

1. Mix all the ingredients except the beans in a shaker full of ice and shake hard for 30 seconds.

2. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with the beans centered on the froth.

Dallmayr’s Expertise Is Still A Family Tradition

Munich has been home to Dallmayr Coffee since the early 18th century. Originally founded by a local merchant, Alois Dallmayr bought the enterprise around 1870. A few decades later, the original store location had grown into one of the leading delicatessens in Europe. The company headquarters is in the old part of Munich, with descendants of Dallmayr still working and holding shares in the company.

Munich has been home to Dallmayr Coffee since the early 18th century. Originally founded by a local merchant, Alois Dallmayr bought the enterprise around 1870. A few decades later, the original store location had grown into one of the leading delicatessens in Europe. The company headquarters is in the old part of Munich, with descendants of Alois still working and holding shares in the company.
Because Munich is such a special place, especially in the history of coffee in Germany, we thought the newly-opened exhibition at the Deutsches Museum was worth a look.

Kosmos-Kaffee-BannerThe museum is an interactive science and technology space, so the new “Kosmos Kaffee” (Cosmos Coffee) exhibit opening last month takes a look at the biology, the chemistry, and the social sciences of coffee. Some might say the universe of coffee.

You can take a walk through the history of espresso machines, which will remind you of space-age design with all the chrome and knobs. They even offer an app for your phone where you can grow a coffee plant to harvest, and see how many cups of coffee your plant will make. (It’s an app; what can we say?)

An Italian manufacturer of professional espresso and cappuccino equipment which happens to own the largest collection of equipment dedicated to coffee culture, tech and design, has loaned some of their collection to the exhibit. Highlights of the collection include a horizontal espresso machine from the 1940s; a “horned” behemoth that looks more like a motorcycle engine, and a shiny model from the ‘60s, iconic and revolutionary for its extraction technology.

Dallmayr and Munich will always be connected in special ways. Our special this week is for Dallmayr coffee, so we’ll give you 15% off your order of Dallmayr products from our site.*

Dallmayr Quality is The Dallmayr Tradition

If you enjoy a smooth coffee, then you must have tried Dallmayr Prodomo, their most popular product. The coffee is smooth from the first sip to the finish, and we have whole beans, ground, plus a decaf roast and a mild roast, both in ground.

For a truly velvety coffee, Dallmayr Crema D’Oro is balanced, smooth, with spicy aroma notes. The 100% Arabica beans are gently roasted, making a delicious espresso, or to be used as a base for lattes and cappuccinos.

Dallmayr-NL-Advert-081119

Dallmayr also has capsules for the Nespresso machine. We have a range of 9 roasts in our Capsa line:

Artigiano capsules are 7 out of 10 on the intensity scale. This complex roast has subtle notes of fruit and nut.

Barista capsules have an intensity of 8 with cocoa notes, dense crema and a smooth mouth feel.

Ristretto capsules are 10 on the intensity scale, so expect full and intense flavors, including fruit and spice along with sweet notes. Perfect for making a short-shot (ristretto).

Try Lungo Belluno, with an intensity of 5, to enjoy a soft, balanced Arabica. Notes of vanilla, floral and nuts make this a special drink. Try Lungo Azzuro, intensity 8, if you are looking for something a little stronger.

We also have Crema d’Oro (light, mild and balanced); Lungo Ethiopia (medium); Decaffeinato (medium/dark), and their Prodomo. All of these capsules are available, along with our entire Dallmayr line, for the discount offered above. If you have a Nespresso machine, do not miss this deal!

Researchers Find Bamboo Reusable Coffee Cups May Carry Risks

We have previously written about Germany (and other European countries) that are actively working to support sustainable business process by supplying reusable coffee cups to replace the standard paper to-go cups. There are a variety of systems in which the cups are purchased – or would that be rented? – filled with coffee, and then returned back to the café at another time. There they are washed and sterilized. A German consumer research foundation studying the impact of bamboo cups tested them with hot coffee, and found that the temperature at which coffee is drunk causes resin from the cup to leach into the liquid. The group published their findings last month, but encouraged people to use other types of reusable cups made from other materials.

Beat The Heat With a Unique Coffee Treat!

Writer Jane Austen wrote to her sister in late summer 1796:

Jane-Austin-Hot-Weather

While it is hot in some parts of the USA, Europe has been experiencing record-setting heat for two months now. In June, a city in France endured an all-time high of 115⁰F, while several other countries, including Austria, Luxembourg, and Germany, logged new high temperatures too, making June the hottest on record. July was much of the same – forest fires, buckled train tracks, air quality warnings, and drought-like conditions. Late in July, several countries issued “red alerts” as the temperatures increased. Britain logged 101⁰F in Cambridge; the Netherlands had 104⁰F in the south, breaking a record more than 50 years standing. Germany hit a record with 106⁰F in the western region of the country. Many homes and businesses do not have air conditioning, and with water-usage restrictions and dry fields, it seems most Europeans are just trying to stay cool.

iced-coffee-short-blue-and-white-strawsWhile there is not much that can be done about the temperatures, there are plenty of things that someone can do to beat the heat – including our favorite, iced coffee! Summer is perfect for this treat. We have a recipe with some suggestions on the newest trends in iced coffee below, but in the meantime, we are offering a sweet deal on our coffee and products.

Coffee Trends This Summer

Summer is the season of iced coffee, and this season’s big trend, again, is cold-brew coffee. Those who love it say cold-brew is particularly smooth because the cold water slowly extracts the coffee from the beans. (Cold-brew is easy to make, and of course you
can use any of our coffees. See below.)

iced-coffee-summer-trendsBut this summer, look for unique styles of the brew, new and surprising flavors, and techniques that kick-up your coffee drink a notch. Here are a few:

–Floral flavors such as rose, violet, and elderflower
–Summer herbs, added to simple syrup, such as mint, basil, and rosemary
–Using different varieties and blends of coffees
–Infusing the cold-brew with surprising flavors such as juniper and agave; cocoa; pepper; vanilla bean, and vodka

How To Make Cold-Brew Coffee

cold-brew1. Use high-quality beans (we have plenty from which to choose). Grind the beans semi-coarse.

2. Stir ¾ cup grounds with 4 cups of water, and put in the fridge for 6-18 hours to make a concentrate.

3. Strain in a sieve lined with a coffee filter. For concentrate, use one-part concentrate with two-parts water to start. You can adjust the proportions of water and grounds depending on how you prefer your coffee. Enjoy!

Italian Military Exercises Serve Up Strategy and Espresso

ITL-Soldiers-EspressoThe Italian Army’s paratrooper brigade has been taking part in “Swift Response” exercises in eastern Europe this summer, being dropped into the field, then searching for and capturing “the enemy.” One of the most important pieces of equipment they carry is the portable espresso machine, because, well, they love espresso. In their foxholes, the Italians brew espresso, and the other combatants have noticed. An American adviser taking part in the exercises noted that the Italian paratroopers are battle-ready, even when gripping a tiny cup of coffee. In a recent night battle, the paratroopers successfully held their position through a mock challenge. You can be sure they celebrated the win with an espresso.
