This week, we are putting our full range of French products in the spotlight: Coffee, chicory, chocolate, cookies, cakes and candies. Because the French love to make mealtimes memorable, we wanted you to know more about French food and drink customs. Read on, mon ami!
In France, a typical meal at lunch or dinner consists of 4 courses: Salad, Meat main dish, cheese with bread and dessert. Bread and water are always served and French wine is often served too. Coffee is always served!
While the French enjoy three meals a day, tea is also served in the late afternoon. Breakfast includes pastries, buttery croissants, sometimes with almond or chocolate paste.
The coffee is very strong, and it is common to have café au lait (coffee with hot milk). Fresh fruit and yogurt are also often served at breakfast.
By the way, if you order a café (coffee) in a shop, you’ll get a tiny shot of espresso in a tiny cup. This is also the café served at the end of your meal. Café Americain is filtered coffee and yes, it is more like the coffee Americans drink. Decaf gets you a decaf espresso, of course.

The Best French Coffee Is Here
Carte Noire, literally “black card”, began almost 35 years ago when Rene Monnier, a coffee blender and roaster whose family had already been producing Grand Mere, created the brand. The Monniers chose the name and the black and gold packaging to reflect sophistication and elegance. The coffee has long been marketed as “a coffee named desire”, which is also reflected in their commercials and other advertisements. In fact, some might describe their ads of their coffee as seductive! Carte Noire remains today one of France’s most popular coffee brands. We have it in ground, whole beans, instant, pods, espresso and decaffeinated.
Grand Mere, started by the Monnier family 47 years ago, is named after grandmother because “she knows how to make a good coffee.” Just look at the package to see her smiling down on you as you enjoy her coffee. Today, the brand is one of the top coffee brands in France. We have Degustation (Tasty) and Familial (Family) roasts in 8.8oz packages.
Maison Du Café is made by Douwe Egberts France, and we all know that Douwe Egberts produces quality coffee. In France, their advertising slogan is “Each cup offers a moment of pleasure and friendship.” Ma Tradition is a combination of Robusta and Arabica coffee beans, roasted in the Douwe Egberts process, which produces a fragrant and balanced medium roast coffee. LOR Doux is soft and sweet from the 100% Arabica coffee beans.
