New Regional Roasts from Dallmayr

2014_Dallmayr_Granverde  2014_Dallmayr_Neiva2014_Dallmayr_Kilimanjaro

We are very excited about 3 new coffees from Dallmayr just in! Dallmayr has created these roasts from 100% Arabica beans. The coffees are also UTZ Certified. Through UTZ certification programs, farmers learn sustainable farming methods, experience improved working conditions and are able to take better care of the environment.

Try Dallmayr Granverde, an organic ground coffee blend from Latin America. The coffee has a delicate nutty taste with a soft finish.

Dallmayr Neiva is grown in the coffee belt of Columbia. A single-origin coffee, this medium roast is spicy, with a fresh taste and citrus notes.

Finally, Dallmayr Kilimanjaro is a single-origin coffee from Tanzania. These unique beans are grown at the foot of the mountain, giving the coffee a balanced flavor with a light floral note.

All of these earn high marks for aroma, too, so try any or all of them for a true international coffee experience!

Coffee Shop Thwarts WiFi

Coffee shops have long struggled with issues of customers taking up table space while abusing access to the shop’s WiFi. Some shops no longer offer WiFi, while others ban phones and computers. Now a pop-up coffee shop in Vancouver has had a Faraday Cage incorporated into the café design to actually block wireless signals. The building designer for the Faraday Café stated that the material used is quite beautiful, reflecting light and shadow. The owner hopes that even those people glued to their electronic devices like the idea of no signals and see the shop as a refuge from the constant electronic activities. The event was only a temporary installation, but we may start seeing this sort of thing more regularly!

Douwe Egberts & Senseo Know Good Coffee

2014_Netherlands Orange_1905
The Netherlands International Team (circa 1905)

Did you know that as you read this the World Cup is happening in Brazil? Since early June, soccer teams from all around the world, including the U.S., have been competing in Brazil to move forward in the race to the championship finals. But did you know that the Netherlands is one of the better teams playing in this World Cup series? They are predicted to make it to the quarterfinals this time. The Dutch have been a powerhouse on the field (or shall we say ‘pitch’?) for decades, when some say they reinvented the game with a new focus on passing. In fact, the team has been referred to as “Clockwork Orange” for their precision passing. World Cup Soccer championships occur every four years, since 1930, except during WWII, this being the 20th World Cup. The Dutch teams have been in the finals 4 times in World Cup history, thrice making it to second place (Runner-up). When you consider that this is only the 20th time the World Cup is taking place, that is not bad for a country of only 17 million people. So far this year, the Orange hammered Spain 5-1, shut out Chile at 2-0, won by 1 over both Australia and Mexico, fans continue to cheer them on against Costa Rica as we go to press.  (UPDATE:  The Netherlands won the match in a dramatic penalty shoot-out!)
